IMNCI in Mongar Hospital

The first batch 24 BHU staff under Mongar Dzongkhag are currently attending a 8 days training on Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood illness (IMNCI). This very important and intensive training is conducted through budgetary support from UNICEF and WHO. IMNCI is an integrated approach to child health that focuses on the well-being of the whole child, rather than a single illness. This training is aimed at improving the overall case management skills of the health care workers especially at rural settings with limited facilities and early referral of cases that need advanced care.

The long term objectives of the training Program include improved case management of under five children, reduction of under-five mortality, better nutrition and immunization coverage and achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of Reducing Childhood Mortality.

A similar training will be conducted for the remaining health staff soon, ensuring that all the health staff working in the BHUs under Mongar Dzongkhags are trained in this strategy.
